Getting groceries on vacation!

Updated: Oct 22, 2019

As you all probably know, food and drinks in Disney (at both the resorts and the parks) are overpriced! To help save some money, you can have groceries delivered to your room through Amazon Prime Now. In order to use this service, you must be an Amazon Prime member, but you can do a free 30 day trial (just be sure to cancel it or else you will get charged monthly). Also, if you are a teacher or student, you can get a special rate if you want to extend past your free trial!

Once you are an Amazon Prime member, you can download the Amazon Prime Now application on your phone so that you can order the groceries. You can also do this online, but if you are on the Magical Express, it is quick and easy to do from the app! I believe if you add $35 or more worth of items, the delivery is free! Most delivery to your hotel is in 2 hours, and you can even pick a drop off time slot that is convenient for you! The great thing about Amazon Prime Now is that you can get a wide variety of foods at normal prices, NOT those expensive Disney prices. Also, it saves space in your luggage, so you have more room to pack outfits and ears!

Be careful, Amazon adds in a tip automatically, but you can change it to whatever you are comfortable with. Make sure that when you are writing down the drop off location that you write the correct address for the resort, and in the notes write your name and reservation number, and include any other useful information. This will ensure that your packages are accepted and held at bell services until you are ready to receive them. If you are in your room, you can call bell services and they will deliver it to you, usually within minutes! If you are ordering alcohol, I believe you need to be in the lobby waiting for the Amazon Prime delivery driver to show your ID, otherwise they will not deliver the alcohol and they will credit you back that money.

To give you an example, Nick and I usually order cereal and milk, as well as chips, gum, a pack of water bottles, energy drinks, bottles of Starbucks iced coffee, etc. We usually take a few paper bowls and plastic spoons from the food court to use with our cereal in the morning, so that we don't have to buy them (shhh lol). This way, every morning we are set with a quick breakfast in the room before we head to the parks. We usually drink the energy drinks and iced coffee on the bus which also helps to wake us up and give us energy to last throughout the day. Not only are we saving money this way, but we are saving time, because let's be honest, if we ate at the resort or in the parks, it would take much longer.

I know there are other sites and companies that deliver groceries to the room, but I have only used Amazon Prime Now. Honestly, I have never had a problem with this service and every time I have used it, my groceries were delivered to the room in less than 2 hours! The milk even comes in a refrigerator bag which keeps it cold! Nick and I usually order our groceries when we are on the Magical Express so by the time we check into the hotel and are done getting ready to go to the parks, our groceries are delivered.

I hope this information is helpful! I know you cannot order everything through Amazon Prime Now, but it is definitely good for snacks to eat in the room and to bring to the park, as well as bottled drinks because they are very overpriced in Disney!

If you have any questions about using this service, don't hesitate to ask me! If you use it, let me know your thoughts, I'd love to hear!

That's all for now! Thanks for reading!

Edit: Disney now charges $6 for them to accept & hold your groceries for you at bell services. To avoid this, you can meet the delivery driver in the lobby and get your groceries directly from them. However, if you are not at the hotel, in my opinion, the $6 fee isn't that bad compared to the expensive food you would have bought in Disney if you did not use Amazon Prime Now. So, just be aware of that extra fee.
