My two favorite gluten free treats!

I am so excited for this blog post because I am sharing my two favorite gluten free snacks on Disney property, beignets & churros! The gluten free beignets are located at Port Orleans French Quarter (POFQ) and the gluten free churros are located at Nomad Lounge which is in Animal Kingdom.

POFQ is known for their Mickey shaped beignets and I'm so glad they created a gluten free version. Although these beignets are rectangular and not Mickey shaped, they are so flavorful and delicious. Nick says that you can't even tell they are gluten free, and that means a lot coming from him! If you are at French Quarter and you would like to order the beignets, they are available at Sassagoula Floatworks, which is a quick service restaurant located in the food court area. When you order and specify that you would like them gluten free, an allergy chef comes out to talk to you to discuss your allergies to ensure it is prepared properly. Also, a bonus, these gluten free beignets are also DAIRY FREE! The beignets are made in the back kitchen in a separate fryer, so you don't have to worry about cross contamination! You can order the beignets in sets of 3 and you can also get it with dipping sauces (chocolate ganache, raspberry, or caramel), and/or ice cream! For those of you on the dining plan, you can get 3 beignets as a snack credit. I know POFQ is not at the parks so it may be a little out of the way for some people, but it is totally worth it! The beignets are so tasty... I love them and you will too!

Now let's talk about these churros.... another gluten free treat I am OBSESSED with! Like I said, you can get these churros at Nomad Lounge, which is connected to Tiffins in Animal Kingdom. Nomad Lounge is a great spot to hangout, cool off, and have a drink, apps (small plates), or just go for the churros! Just like the beignets, Nick loves the churros and said he can't even tell they are gluten free. Whenever we go and order them, he has to limit himself to only having half the basket of churros, because if not, he would totally eat them all! I've also brought other, non gluten free friends here who really enjoyed them!

After speaking to the waiter, I found out that these churros are NATURALLY GLUTEN FREE! Meaning, they are always made gluten free and there is no other way to make them! However, if you have celiac, I still recommend speaking with a chef to ensure they are not made in a shared fryer. The churros are served with vanilla and chili-strawberry dipping sauces, which are both very tasty and give the churros even more flavor. The waiter also informed me that most of their menu is or can be made gluten free. I haven't tried anything there other than the drinks and churros, but if you are looking for some small plates, it's worth a shot to check out! Just ask to speak to the chef before ordering.

The reason that I love spreading the word about these two amazing gluten free snacks is because not many people know about them. I've overheard many people in the parks asking about gluten free desserts or snacks and I've interrupted to tell them about both these items. The beignets are more known than the churros are, in my opinion. What I find weird is that the churros are not advertised as gluten free, so unless you knew it ahead of time, you wouldn't think to ask if they are or can be made gluten free. That is why you should ask or look online for an allergy menu, and always ask the waiter or chef what they can make to fit your allergy needs! You will be surprised what Disney chefs can create!

So there you have it! My two favorite gluten free treats (I guess you can say desserts, even tho I can eat them all day) in all of Disney! They are both definitely worth checking out. If you are gluten free, this will be a game changer for you!! I am obsessed and I know you will love them as well! If you try them, please let me know what you think! Also, if you ever have any gluten free questions, don't hesitate to ask me! I would love to help :)

XO

Jenna

PSA: I spoke to the allergy chef before ordering the beignets and spoke to the waiter before ordering the churros to ensure they are gluten free. Since I have a sensitivity and not an allergy, cross contamination does not bother me. If you are celiac, please consult the allergy chef before ordering anything to ensure it is 100% gluten free with no cross contamination.
